 Shabana: an iconi star, whose real name is Afroza Sultana Ratna, is a legendary film actress from Bangladesh. She started her acting career as a child artist in the film Notun Sur in 1962.

Shabana’s journey:

Legendary actress  shabana rose to fame with her debut Urdu film Chakori in 1967, where she co-starred with Pakistani actor Nadeem. She was given the stage name Shabana by the director Ehtesham. She belongs to the Dabua village of Raozan upazila in Chittagong district1

Shabana has acted in 299 films in Bengali and Urdu, and one in Hindi titled Shatru with Indian actor Rajesh Khanna in 1986. She has worked with many renowned actors such as Razzak, Bulbul Ahmed, Alamgir, Jashim, Ilyas Kanchan, Wasim, Javed Sheikh,  Waheed Murad,Humayun Faridi .

Shabana’s Achievement:

She has won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress nine times and the Best

Producer award once. She has also received the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Prime Minister in 2017 for her contribution to the Bangladeshi film industries

Shabana’s iconic Film:

Her cinematic journey began as a child actress in the film “Notun Sur” (1961). However, it was her debut as a heroine in the Urdu movie “Chakori” (1967) that catapulted her into the limelight. Paired with co-actor Nadeem, Shabana’s magnetic presence and emotive performances captured hearts across the nation.

The 1972 film “Ora Egaro Jon,” where she starred alongside Razzak, showcased her versatility. Set against the backdrop of the Bangladesh Liberation War, this movie remains a poignant chapter in her legacy.

Shabana’s historical acting skills shone brightly in “Chhutir Ghonta” (1980), and “Rajnigandha” further solidified her status as an icon.

With over 300 films to her credit, Shabana’s talent earned her ten National Film Awards. Her impact extended beyond the screen, touching the lives of countless fans. In 1998, she bid adieu to acting and relocated to the United States with her family.
