How the beginning of Islam

One of the most commonly asked questions about the history of Islam is ‘when did Islam begin?’. Its origins can be traced back to 610 A.D. which is when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) first saw the Angel Jibril and shared the words of Allah (SWT).

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Mecca, Arabia, in 570 A.D., to parents Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib and Amina bint Wahb. His first wife, Khadija, played a significant role in their community. In 610 A.D., Muhammad (PBUH) and Khadija lived in Mecca, a prosperous trading city controlled by the Quraysh. Muhammad (PBUH) sought clarity through meditation in Mount Hira, where he received revelations and visions. Allah (SWT) selected him as the last of the 25 prophets to spread His teachings.

What happened at the meditation of Muhammad (PBUH) in the beginning of islam?

On one occasion, when Muhammad (PBUH) was in his cave meditating, the Angel Jibril descended upon Muhammad (PBUH) and told him that there was in fact only one God and His name was Allah (SWT).Muhammad (PBUH) was a merchant and could not read or write, but the Angel Jibril instructed him to recite the words of Allah (SWT). Muhammad (PBUH) was able to recite what the Angel Jibril was relaying to him, and after reciting the first passages of what would later go on to be the Qur’an, Muhammad (PBUH) found the teachings profound and confided in his wife following the encounter, receiving unwavering support from her.

The Night of Power, known as Laylat al-Qadr, is believed to occur on the 27th night of the ninth lunar month, during the last ten days of Ramadan. Some scholars argue that it could fall on any of the odd-numbered nights in this period. This significant night marks the occasion when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) received the first revelations from Allah (SWT) through the Angel Jibril.

As Muhammad (PBUH) continued to receive messages, he began sharing the monotheistic teachings with the people, attracting a small following. However, in a predominantly polytheistic Arabia, many were resistant, fearing the potential impact on their trade and livelihoods. Despite challenges, Muhammad (PBUH) persisted in spreading the message of Islam.
